Abstract: The article is devoted to empirical and theoretical studies of a salacious novel, it functions in contemporary culture and life, analysis of male and female subjects of tabloid stories. Shocker is not a homogeneous group, in particular, it includes two main subgroups: «novels for women» (novels about love) and «novels for men» («action detectives»). A comparison of these subgroups among themselves showed a General similarity of the plots of pulp novels as the «formula stories». It also showed that many variations of the same story in the interpretations of different authors allow us to consider a novelette as a specific «hypertext», the meaning of which is revealed in the interaction and the mutual superposition of the individual texts. The function of a salacious novel as a phenomenon is broadcast to the General reader some basic effective models of relationships and behavior in everyday and crisis situations – personal and professional life, training these models. Many of these models in varying degrees openly describe the psychotherapeutic approach-oriented relationships are built on the basis of professional myths and ideas of doctors and psychologists, sociologists and philosophers, linguists and anthropologists on the development of personality and its relations.
