Abstract: The paper presents cognitive structures (concepts, stereotypes) participating in the creation of poetic verbal images and going back to the situation of perception. The poetical texts by W.B. Yeats and their translation into Russian are investigated as a func-tional mechanism conveying the peculiarities of the author`s world interpretation and as a form of the embodiment of specific semantic (cognitive) structures of the author`s consciousness.

Keywords: cognitive poetics, translation, cognitive mechanism, perception
