Abstract: The complexity of genre nature of Dostoevsky’s short story “Bobok”, which causes controversy among researchers, largely ignores the duality of this text, which, on the one hand, is complete artistic phenomenon, and on other – part of the whole “Diary of the writer for1873”. In the article, based on the principles of discursive analysis, we tried to describe this duality as the intersection of the mechanisms of rhetoric and poetics. Thanks to the rhetorical component, Dostoevsky managed to fit “Bobok” into the general polemical context of the Russian journalism of 1870s. On the country, the use special poetics allowed the writer to discover a new principle of physicality in Russian literature, which in many ways anticipated the search for postmodernism at the end of the twenties century.
