Brief scientific biography

Valery Igorevich Tyupa – literary critic, doctor of philological sciences, professor of the Russian State Humanitarian University.

He graduated from high school in the city of Lubny, Poltava region (Ukraine). In 1969 he graduated from the philological faculty of Moscow University, in 1972 – graduate school there. V. I. Tyupa considers V. E. Khalizev and A. A. Fedorov to be his teachers, who carried away the teachings of Teilhard de Chardin about the evolving noosphere. In the early years of his studies, he was influenced by the works of Yu. M. Lotman, and later, to this time, by M. M. Bakhtin.

In 1974 he defended his thesis on the relationship of immanence and causality of the literary process (under the guidance of G. N. Pospelov).

In 1979-1980, he trained at the Sorbonne under the leadership of Yu. Kristeva; at the College de France, he listened to the last (incomplete) lecture course of R. Barth; attended Algirdas Greimas seminars.

In 1990 he defended his doctoral dissertation on the category of artistry of a literary work; in 1992 he was awarded the academic title of professor.

He taught at the universities of Samara (Kuibyshev), Lviv, Kemerovo (since 1976), where in 1980 he opened the Department of Literature Theory. Together with N. D. Tamarchenko, S. N. Broitman, M. N. Darwin, S. P. Lavlinsky, M. Yu. Luchnikov, L. Yu. Fukson, he entered the Kemerovo school of poetry.

Since 1989, he headed the Department of Literature Theory of Novosibirsk Pedagogical University; since 1995 – chief researcher in the literary criticism sector of the Institute of Philology of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Since September 1998, he is a professor at the Institute of Philology and History of the Russian State University for the Humanities, since February 1999 he has been the head of the Department of Theoretical and Historical Poetics of the Russian State Humanitarian University, and since 2014 he has been a professor emeritus at the Russian State Humanitarian University.

Member of the Academic Council and chairman of the dissertation council on philological sciences at the Russian State Humanitarian University. Scientific consultant of several doctoral dissertations, scientific adviser of many candidate dissertations.

In 1993–1995 he worked as a professor at the University of Bydgoszcz (Poland); in the summer semester of 2000 – visiting professor at the University of Konstanz (Germany). He lectured in Japan, Vietnam, South Korea.
