Abstract: The wide humanitarian project “Monuments of Folklore of the Peoples of Siberia and Far East” has indicated the development thrust in Siberian studies which takes into account the folklore sources as well as the theoretical researches. 34 volumes are already published presenting heroic epos, tales, rituals, myths and legends of Altaians, Butyats, Dolgans, Mansi (Voguls), Nanaians, Russians, Tuvinians, Udegei, Shor, Evenki, Sakha (Yakuts). The volumes are now serving the source base for theoretical studies in Siberian folklore. The methodical approaches of the series pay much attention to living folklore tradition pecular for Siberia. The wide use of audio records permitting to provide the audio application to the verbal text enriches the study of the nature of folklore and its musical component. One of the most significant volumes of the series is the volume “Altai heroic epos” where the textology of epics was studied in great detail. The experience of this work have been summarized by the author in the monograph named the same way as the volume but with addition: “Approaches to textology and translation”. The scientific ideas of the book advance not only the editional textology but also the complex textology, indicate new scientific areas and approaches.
