Abstract: The paper is concentrated on the analysis of aesthetic principles of Bunin’s poetry which were most distinctly presented in the «autumnal poem» «Leaf Fall» (1900) (which has brought Bunin the fame of «the poet of the Russian landscape») and in other poems of the 1900–1920s. His co-presence in the world of polar foundations (oxymorons at the stylistic level), bright, rich and clear reflection of a plurality of the details of being (metonymy), have transformed into the reflection of the cosmic world-view of the poet who was seeking to depict the global life movement in the movement of nature. For Bunin the landscape was the «window» opening a way to him to join in the life of previous generations. It was the replication of the aforetime experience of the ancestors, the sense of ancestral genetic connection that was the source of authentic poetical emotions for Bunin.

Keywords: i. a. bunin (1870–1953), poetry, landscape lyrics, pantheism, oxymorons, metonymy, genetic «reminiscence», artistic philosophy
