Abstract: The paper presents an analysis of different approaches to the definition of the speech genre: philological, communicative, sociopragmatic. The study of these genres makes it possible to foresee the course of communication, to schedule it correctly, to react adequately upon communicative actions of the partners and, as a result, to achieve communicative aims.
