Abstract: Perception is one of the main means of cognizing the surrounding world. The linguistic units with the semantics of perception in a fiction text perform different functions both at the semantic and at the structural level. The present paper discusses the lexical and syntactic units with the meaning of perception and their role in the semantic organization of the story «Kashtanka» by A.P. Chekhov.

Keywords: perception, semantic organization, text space
