Abstract: The paper analyzes the perception of the novel «War and Peace» in Okudzhava’s story «Goodbye! All the best, school student». The strategy of acquiring Tolstoy’s artistic experience is characterized against the background of «lieutenant’s prose». The prerequisites for Okudzhava’s polemic dialogue with his contemporaries and the prospects for his dialogue with L.N. Tolstoy are elucidated.
