Abstract: The paper discusses theoretical aspects of the short literary form, which is charac-terized by semantic condensation, gaps in meaning, lyricism and representation of the author as a character. The distinction between the long and short forms is shown to be associated with boundaries between narrative and poetic speech («Erzählkunst» vs. «Wortkunst»).

Keywords: semantic condensation, gaps in meaning, lyricism, author as character, erzählkunst, wortkunst
