Abstract: The paper deals with the peculiarities of the realization of somatic (body) code of Russian culture in mother’s speech communication with her child at its age from zero up to twelve months. Based on a multifaceted analysis of empirical data obtained by the method of involved observation it is argued that the elements of body code relevant for Russians are taught to children in their first year via their mother’s active use of «the practice of forming her child’s positive attitude to its own body». In the mother’s speech behavior the author reveals and presents her phonetic, lexical, grammatical as well as nonverbal means of objectifying the body code.

Keywords: body code, communicative practice, mother’s speech behavior, speech culture
