Abstract: An analysis is made of the semantic filling of some Russian historical texts of the late 18th – the early 19th century appurtenant to the history of the annexation of Novgorod to the Muscovy state under Ivan the third, which is based on revealing the senses of the verbal material. A conclusion is made that the texts addressed to different but particular reference groups of readers, who could recognize the ideas close to their consciousness and culture thanks to the use of specific lexemes and verbal structures.
