Abstract: Reasearch into the Russian manuscripts of «Alfonso Ramiro/’s History» has revealed that in creating the love line of the novel the author made use of several plot lines taken from Ariosto/’s poem «The Furious Roland» (Angelica and Medoro/’s love, Roland/’s fury, Astolfo/’s journey to the Moon). To shape the pseudo-historical background the author applied some historical sources about the Karl the Great Epoch.
