Abstract: The human quest for his own faith is a key problem of the A.P. Chekhov's work. It has an existentional character, because the comprehension of personal experience acquires great philosophical significance. The Chekhov's hero tries to understand his indifference to life, his boredom and to receive it as one of the main feeling in our being. The author's knowledge of his traveling to Siberia and Sakhalin is of great importance in this way of hero's self-knowledge.
