Name: Reception of Gerhart Hauptmann's drama "The Lonely" in the Russia of the early twentieth century

Abstract: The article concentrates on the analysis of critical reception of Gerhart Hauptmann in Russia at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It's made an attempt to show the most important tendencies in the attitude to Gerhart Hauptmann's personality during the most active period of his reception in Russia. Gerhart Hauptmann's reception in Siberia (exactly Tomsk) is of particular importance. Comparison with the central critics shows retardation of Tomsk reception both in time and quality. Nevertheless, the presence of this reception allows making a conclusion about a importance of piece in the culture life in Russia of that time and determining its significance in the process of development new forms and ideas by Russian public.
