Abstract:

Tomsk State Pedagogical University hosted on December 2–3, 2021 a conference “Children’s book in the digital age” dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the graduate of Tomsk Teacher’s Institute, children’s writer A. M. Volkov. This paper summarizes the results of this conference. The uniqueness of this conference dedicated to children’s literature is that the phenomena of children’s books and reading were discussed under a variety of research perspectives by scientists and practitioners from different fields of knowledge. The scientific event was a part of the series of events organized by TSPU dedicated to children’s and youth literature, reading, the image of childhood in fiction. The conference provided a platform for understanding the global challenges associated with changing formats of children’s books and the emergence of a new generation of digital readers. During the conference, the participants discussed the influence of A. M. Volkov on modern literature, the role of illustration in a children’s book, considered the possibilities of using fiction in inclusive work, and identified effective technologies for reading books, including for “special” children. Of importance were the aspects of considering museum pedagogy and library work in the development of reading culture of a child, teenager, and family.
