Abstract: The publication of an unknown autograph and two texts of V. Y. Bryusov that were not previously republished is directly related to the history of his participation in the newspaper “Birzheviye vedomosti” and the relationship with critic A. A. Izmailov who worked for many years in this newspaper. Bryusov was one of the first modern writers to “come down” to the pages of the newspaper and appreciate the possibilities of the mass press of popularising his own creativity. The publication complements the correspondence between the literary men of 1909–1917, published in the Institute of Russian Literature (Pushkinskiy Dom) of the Russian Academy of Sciences as part of the book “A. A. Izmailov: correspondence with contemporaries” (St. Petersburg, 2017). This correspondence deals with the important issues of the creative biography of Bryusov. The note “For the Chronicle” (“Dlya Chroniki”) refers to the period of intensive cooperation of the poet in the newspaper “Birzheviye vedomosti” after returning from “the theatre of war”. “History Lesson” (“Urok Istorii”) is an open letter from Bryusov to the editorial office of the newspaper “Birzheviye vedomosti” that was caused by a tragic accident on March 17, 1915, when the French-Russian hospital ship of Red Cross was sunk by a German submarine. The poem “The way and life” (“Put i Zhizn”) proved to be the single poet’s publication in the newspaper “Petrogradskiy golos” (until 1917, “Petrogradskiy listok”). The present study involves the work with the archival documents.
