Abstract: The paper characterises for the first time the archival and published sources for the ethnomusicological study of the song folklore of the Koryaks. The first phonographic recordings of Koryak songs were made by V. Yochelson and V. Bogoraz at the beginning of the 20th century during the Jesup’s expedition. They represent the earliest, authentic form of the existence of folklore. The songs from the collections of V. Steshenko-Kuftina and the phonogram archive of the IRLI were recorded from the young Koryaks (students) and show the tradition of the 1920s and 1930s. The materials of Kamchatka collectors (G. Porotova, V. Kosygin and others) refer to the second half of the 20th century when amateur creativity influenced the traditional culture. The ethnomusicological study of Koryak songs was carried out by V. Steshenko-Kuftina, I. Bogdanov, and Yu. Sheikin. Most archival materials on Koryak songs have not been studied and reported scientifically. A conclusion is made that it is relevant to search for archival audio recordings, to give their musical interpretation, as well as to perform the ethnomusicological study of Koryak song folklore in local and historical aspects.
