Abstract: The article analyzes self-presentation as one of the genres of Internet communication. The analysis is presented in the form of a certain set of tactics and strategies. The authors describe strategies (definite speech and mental actions that help to reach the aim of a virtual communicative message) and tactics (different ways to achieve the aim) that are used by Russian-speaking and English-speaking men while creating their self-presentations on dating sites. The researchers have found the connection between the age of a profiler and presence of «free self-presentation». They identify communicative strategies universal and typical for both languages and describe coincidences and differences in the choice of tactical devices used for implementation of certain strategies.

Keywords: internet-communication, self-presentation, communicative strategy, communicative tactics, profiler
