Name: Russian spelling and punctuation reform of the 1960s: unknown pages of history

Abstract: The paper reconstructs the most important stages of preparing the spelling and punctuation reform at the beginning of the 1960s. Professional and public debate about the possible changes in the writing system is analyzed. The material given allows us to determine who initiated the reform, what the role of the state was, and why it was not realized. The research was based both on published and unpublished documents of Archives of RAS.
