Abstract: The paper considers the history of several visits of F.M. Dostoyevsky to Barnaul, the causes of the writer’s special love for the city, his dream to move to Barnaul for permanent residence, and it presents some fragments of the writer's letters telling about his visits to our city. Some attention has also been given in the paper to the «echoes» of the Barnaul and Siberian themes in Dostoyevsky’s works, to the literary «traces» of his stay in Barnaul. Besides, the paper substantiates the necessity for installing a monument to the great Russian writer in the old part of the city and naming the square, adjacent to the monument, after F.M. Dostoevsky as a sign of the memory of his visits to our city. For immortalizing the writer’s name in Barnaul in 2015, a year, declared to be the Year of Literature, the Altai state university started arranging a series of events «Dostoevsky comes back to Barnaul», connected with the popularization of the author’s name and his works. The implementation of the project is to become a big cultural event, to play an important role in educating the residents of Barnaul and of the Altai Territory in the spirit of patriotism and respect for history, for the cultural and literary heritage, and to promote the development of the tourist cluster of the Altai Territory.
