Abstract: The theory of dramaturgic motives in literature is generally poorly developed. This, for instance, is evident in the case of Gogol's play "The Gambles", which builds entirely on literature and theatrical clichés to achieve travesty. In this regard the description of a motive becomes much more complicated. The author of the article attempts to educe the specifics of some motives in Gogol's play "The Gamblers".

Keywords: comedy, dramaturgic motif, gogol, prose dialogue and speech
