Abstract: The paper substantiates the reasonability of introducing into scientific circulation the concept «epistolary linguistic personality» – a nationally, historically and discursively conditioned variety. The author of the paper believes that the isolation of this variety implies the research into the peculiarities of the textual embodiment of the author’s image within the scope of epistolary communication with the total action of the linguistic and extralinguistic factors. Defined as the main levels in the structural organization of the personality of this type are genre, stylistic and discursive ones. An emphasis is made on the characteristics of categorial and typological properties of the epistolary linguistic personality with a focus on the universal principles of written-speech communication in the epistolary field. It is emphasized that due to the need for investigating various types of epistolary linguistic personalities particular significance is attached to the notions «epistolary language usage» and «epistolary idiostyle» making it possible to deepen certain provisions of the functional and communicative stylistics, lingvisyic personology, study of genre and discourse theory.

Keywords: linguistic personality, epistolary text, epistolary discours epistolary linguistic personality, epistolary language usage, epistolary idiostyle
