Abstract: This paper is dedicated to the value architectonics of Tolstoy’s works. The most consistent research methodology for studying the value phenomenology of an artistic event has been proposed by M. M. Bakhtin (drawing mostly on Dostoevsky’s heritage). The researcher sees a clue to the essence of an aesthetic event in the phenomenology of the interaction between Me and the Other. However, in Tolstoy’s world we see another, antidialogical model. Meeting with the Other is also considered here as an important event having multiple dimensions, but the Other eventually becomes a threat because a person tends to delegate their inner work to the Other, passively borrowing a depersonalized surrogate of their value-based organization of reality. A person must do the inner work of searching for values only by themselves in order to translate these values into reality. The paper poses a question of how an aesthetic event can be organized within this antigialogical phenomenology and suggests a preliminary solution to this problem.
