Name: Self-translation of Poetic Text as a Form of Auto-communication

Abstract: The article is concerned with self-translation in the context of bilingual poetry. It deals with cases where a poet speaking and writing properly in two or more languages intentionally creates «partner versions» of the same poetic text in two languages. As a rule, rather than being a way of creative outspread, self-translation is problematic for the author. However, the history of literature provides a number of sporadic cases of poetic self-translation. These cases testify two things. First, that they really are exceptions to the rule, according to which self-translation often creates an unsurmountable obstacle or is but an idle activity. Second, that at the same time these exceptions demonstrate unconventional or even unique models of self-communication in language and literature, acting as cultural transfers in terms of specific «dual texts».

Keywords: self-translation, bilingual poetry, self-communication, dual texts
