Brief scientific biography

Graduated from the Barnaul College of Music, theoretical department (1980); M. I. Glinka Novosibirsk State Conservatory, Faculty of Theory and Composition (1989, class of Associate Professor Yu. I. Sheikin).

Candidate's dissertation: "Traditional song culture of the Altaians" (1998; scientific advisor - Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor V. V. Mazepus).

In 2005 G. B. Sychenko completed her doctoral studies, the topic of her dissertation was "Shaman text as a musical and poetic phenomenon (on the material of Southern Siberia)".

From 1984 to 2017 worked in the M. I. Glinka Novosibirsk State Conservatory, first within the framework of the economic contract topics "Siberia", "Altai", "Altai-II", since 1989 - junior researcher in the research sector, since 1992 - senior researcher, since 1996 . - Senior Lecturer at the Department of Ethnomusicology, since 1998 - Senior Lecturer, since 2000 - Associate Professor at the Department of Music History, from 2004 to 2017. - at the Department of Ethnomusicology. From 1994 to 2009 worked as the head of the Archive of Traditional Music, from 2011 to 2016 was the head of the traditional music sector of the Research Institute for the Study of the Musical Culture of Siberia.

Over the years, she worked intermittently in the folklore sector of the peoples of Siberia of the Institute of Philology of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, where she continues to work on the preparation of musicological sections and CDs in a number of Turkic volumes of the series "Monuments of folklore of the Peoples of Siberia and the Far East".

Participant, leader and organizer of about 50 scientific musical-ethnographic and complex expeditions to various regions of Siberia, Mongolia, Nepal.

G.B. Sychenko regularly speaks at scientific forums of various levels in Russia and abroad, and also organizes and conducts scientific conferences, symposiums and exhibitions, incl. international. She has lectured at the Universities Tor Vergata, La Sapienza (Rome, Italy), the Open University (Milton Keynes, UK), Universities of Turin (Italy) and Heidelberg (Germany), Academy of Music. Sibelius (Helsinki, Finland).

Scientific and organizational activity

Since 1984, she has participated in 28 scientific projects (economic contracts, grants from the Russian Foundation for Humanities, the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, the Presidium of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Federal Target Program "Integration of Science and Higher Education"), in 13 of them - as a leader; in 2000 she participated in a grant from the President of the Russian Federation, in 2011 she received a grant from the President of the Republic of Tuva. From 1999 to 2008 she was the coordinator of the agreement on scientific and cultural cooperation between the Oil and Gas Conservatory and the Tor Vergata University, from 2013 to 2017 - the project for the study of nomadic peoples in Siberia in cooperation with the Italian Association for Ethnoarchaeology.

Member of the editorial board of the "Journal of Musical Science" (2013–2017), editorial board of the journal "Languages ??and Folklore of the Indigenous Peoples of Siberia", consultant of the journal "Etnografie Sonore / Sound Ethnographies" (Italy). Since 2015, he has been a member of the Main Editorial Board of the series " Monuments of folklore of the Peoples of Siberia and the Far East", since 2020 - the Encyclopedia "Music of the Turkic-speaking Peoples".

Member of ICTM - International Council for Traditional Music under the auspices of UNESCO, International Society for the Academic Study of Shamanism, European Seminar in Ethnomusicology, Italian Association for Ethnoarchaeology; coordinator, secretary, since January 2015 vice-chairman, since November 2019 co-chairman of the International Study Group for the Study of the Music of the Turkic Speaking World at ICTM.

Teaching profession

At the M. I. Glinka Novosibirsk State Conservatory, G. B. Sychenko gave lectures on the history of music and ethnomusicology, taught a class in her specialty. Under her leadership, candidate dissertations of E.L. Tiron (2015), Yu.S. Gorbacheva (2017), A.Kh. Kan-ool (2020).
