Brief biography

Born in Ulan-Ude. Natalia Vladimirovna graduated from the theoretical and compositional department of the Ulan-Ude Musical College named after. P. I. Tchaikovsky (1969); Faculty of Theory and Composition (1978) and postgraduate studies (1981) at the M. I. Glinka Novosibirsk State Conservatory.

Candidate's dissertation: "Russian calendar songs of Siberia" (1996).

N.V. Leonova took part in the prepublishing of the collective monograph "Musical Culture of Siberia" by the M. I. Glinka Novosibirsk State Conservatory, as well as volumes of the academic Series "Folklore Monuments of the Peoples of Siberia and the Far East" of the SB RAS: "The Russian Fairy Tales of Siberia and the Far East: Legendary and Domestic" (1993), "The Russian Calendar and Ritual Folklore of Siberia and the Far East: Songs. Charms and Spells" (1997), "Russian Lyrical Songs of Siberia and the Far East" (1997), "Russian Family and Ritual Folklore of Siberia and the Far East: Wedding Poetry. Funeral laments" (2002), "Folklore of the Belarusians of Siberia and the Far East. Part I: Family ritual songs and lamentations" (2011). Compiler, editor of a number of publications, author of critical articles.

A significant part of the scientific work is carried out by N.V. Leonova with the support of the Russian Humanitarian Science Foundation.

From 1977 to 2019 participated in 37 educational and scientific expeditions to record musical folklore in the Altai, Krasnoyarsk, Primorsky, Khabarovsk Territories, Amur, Kemerovo, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Tomsk, Tyumen regions, the Republic of Buryatia. She has participated in more than 80 conferences at various levels, from regional to international, and is the author of descriptions of several objects of intangible cultural heritage posted on the website of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.

Scientific and organizational activity

Member of the Siberian organization of the Union of Composers of Russia.

Member of the editorial board of the scientific journal "Languages ??and Folklore of the Indigenous Peoples of Siberia".

Teaching profession

N.V. Leonova taught at the Department of History of Music of the M. I. Glinka Novosibirsk State Conservatory, the Department of Music Theory and Composition (since 1983), since 1986 at the Department of Composition, since 1990 to the present she has been working at the Department of Ethnomusicology. For many years, she conducted training courses in musical-historical and theoretical cycles, developed the author's programs for the courses "Folk Musical Creativity" ("Musical Folklore"), "The Practice of Traditional Music Notation", "Textology of Folklore", "Introduction to East Slavic Ethnography", "Slavic musical cultures of Siberia", "Traditional music of the peoples of Europe". Under the guidance of N. V. Leonova, 17 graduation works, 2 master's theses and 8 candidate's dissertations were defended.
