Scientific interests

General problems of folklore studies of the peoples of Siberia, mythological semantics and poetics of ritual folklore, the phenomenon of the sacred and the problem of the symbol in ritual folklore, topical problems of modern literary processes in Buryatia, comparative studies of folklore and literature of the Turkic-Mongolian peoples.

Brief scientific biography

Graduated from the Irkutsk State University. A. A. Zhdanova in 1976 with a degree in Philology, a teacher of the Russian language and literature. Candidate's dissertation: "Oriental artistic traditions in Buryat poetry" (1997). Doctoral dissertation: "Shamanic chants of the Buryats: symbolism and poetics" (2006). Since 2003 to the present - Senior, Leading, Chief Researcher, Head, Project Coordinator of the Literary and Folklore Department of the Institute for Mongolian, Buddhist and Tibetan Studies of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Scientific and organizational activity

L. S. Dampilova was the head and executor of the projects of the Russian Humanitarian Foundation, the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, the Russian Humanitarian Foundation-Mongolia, the head of the Laboratory of Siberian and the Far Eastern Verbal Cultures under the grant of the Government of the Russian Federation for state support of scientific research conducted under the guidance of leading scientists (agreement No. 075-15-2019-1884) of the Institute of Philology of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (2019–2021). L. S. Dampilova is the leader and participant of international complex research expeditions in Buryatia, Mongolia and Inner Mongolia (PRC).

Teaching profession

In 1987–2003 - Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor of the Department of World Literature of the East Siberian State Institute of Culture, Ulan-Ude. Under the guidance of L. S. Dampilova, 6 candidate’s dissertations theses were prepared for defense.
