Abstract: The introductory part of the article provides general information on the Buryats compactly residing in the Hulun Buir Aimag of Autonomous Region Inner Mongolia of the People\s Republic of China, a general description of the folk-lore material recorded from the Shenekhen (Chinese) Buryats, the representative volume of material consists of legends, historical stories, oral tales. On the basis of the analysis of field records about non-fairytale prose the author aimed to show the preservation of the maternal tradition and the live existence of traditional Buryat folklore in a foreign envi-ronment. For the oral prose of the Shenekhen Buryats, the predominance of legends and stories is typical, in which a living memory, in the first place, of the common-Mongolian, common-Buryat history is preserved. These are cycles of narratives about national heroes — the best leaders of the clan, bators, prominent figures from the masses; the motives of the Mountains Alkhanay and Barkhan, Olkhon Island revered by all ethnic groups of the Buryats are popular. The main conclusion of the author is that despite many years of isolation, the Buryats of Inner Mongolia have not lost their maternal connection with their origins, preserved and transmitted to the new generations the well-established plots of traditional folklore. At the same time, the interrupted communication with the homeland is manifested in the processing of individual plots, for example, in the legend of Balzhan Khatan, an uncharacteristic motive for the disintegration of the Buryat community is inserted, when the deep sense of bitterness that is experienced by those who by the will of fate found themselves in isolation, beyond the limits of native nomadism, is clearly manifested. In addition, in the non-fairytale prose of the Chinese Buryats motives and plots that originated in new places of resi-dence, associated with the peculiarities of resettlement and development, are revealed. Thus, the connection with the historical homeland, tribal affiliation are the value dominants in the not fabulous prose of the Buryats in Inner Mongolia. On the other hand, having settled in new conditions, they created oral works of local origin, mostly toponymic legends. A characteristic aspect of the oral narrations of the Shenekhens is the very painful topic of isolation from the main body of ethnos in a non-national environment. Works of non-fairytale prose recorded in Hulun-Buir basically reflect the traditional worldview and are the repository of the history and mentality of the people, they represent the basis for the transmission of images of the national worldview.
