Abstract: This article examines the function of the use of substitution of words in the stream of the Koryak spontaneous speech. On the one hand, the use of substitution of the word helps to avoid communication failures, to fill a pause, during which the narrator recalls the correct word, in this case, the functions of the substitution of the words associated with the functions of pauses, hesitations. The use of substitution of the words associated with unnatural communicative situation arising in the course of linguistic interview. On the other hand, the level of demand substitution of words in speech due to the individual characteristics of the speech mannerisms of a particular Respondent.
