Abstract: The article analyzes appeal of the modern language personality to the symbolism of China; it becomes clear how the symbolism of China is realized in the texts of the works of contemporary Russian literature, not related to the «Chinese theme». It is noted that China – an ambiguous symbol. Language personality perceives China as a carrier and the positive symbols (ancient history, rich culture, fine art, political relevance, stability, exotic, mysterious), and negative (the poor quality of goods, the surplus of population). The perception of China is stereotypically, which leads to the formation of stable images. At the same time the symbols relating to China are diverse in connotations and evaluations. Symbols of China is very demanded: in the corpus of texts of modern Russian literature is almost no works in which there are no signs associated with China.

Keywords: China, symbol, semiotics, contemporary Russian literature
