Abstract: The essay offers a structure analys s of Leskov’s short story “Chertogon” focus ng on ts ma n mot ves and iconography. Special attention is paid to the functional role of various parts of the text and their interaction with each other. The role of narrator’s voice s exam ned along w th the nuances of ts pecul ar representations in the story. The general theme of the Orthodox Christian concept of sin is another subject of the essay’s scrutiny.
