Abstract: In this article two models of communication are studied: referential one, proposed by O. G. Revzina and I. I. Revzin, and non-referential one formulated by H. P. Grice. The differences and similarities in these models have been detected. Possible developments are suggested for the both models. The both systems are based on a similar multi-parametrical model of communication which make possible a direct comparison of gricean conversational maxims and postulates of normal communication. A non-referential system by G.P. Grice is less strict in evaluation of an act of communication as successful or insuccessful because it includes fewer pa-rameters. Within the modern stage of studies of communication it is possible to ana-lyze the conversation relying explicitly on a spectator and his / her metalinguistic re-flection during the act of communication.

Keywords: communication, reference, conversational maxims
