Abstract: The aim of this paper is to outline the modern theories and methods employed in the communicative and prosodic structures analysis: the shift of interest from codified written language to spontaneous oral speech; applying the computer systems of sounding speech analysis, such as Praat and Speech Analyzer, to the communicative structures studies; verification of linguistic hypotheses in the pro-cesses of developing the systems of prosodic synthesis and oral speech corpora; de-veloping the inventory of the basic communicative meanings, such as themes, rhemes, contrast, and emphasis, their compositions, and the corresponding prosodic structures as their manifestations; studying the ways of mapping the prosody into the corresponding segmental material. The main notions of the communicative and pro-sodic structures theory are illustrated by frequency tracings of the examples taken from oral speech corpora.

Keywords: communicative structure, intonation, theme, rheme, spoken corpora, computer systems of spoken speech analysis, methods
